Where did the summer go? Mine went straight down to the foundations of our house, which is where I ended up while doing what started as minor repairs to our bathroom. As you can tell from the attached photo, the "minor repairs" got a little bit out of hand.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="/admin/../resources/img/blog_img/28/Image015.jpg" width="150" height="200" /> <br /></div><br />I think working on the renovations has inspired me to think big - I'm putting some paintings up in the Customer Service Centre at the <a title="Shops at Don Mills" href="http://www.shopsatdonmills.ca/en/Pages/default.aspx"></a><a title="Shops at Don Mills" href="http://www.shopsatdonmills.ca/en/Pages/default.aspx" id="tewo">Shops at Don Mills</a>, and they are going to be LARGE - 44" x 62".&nbsp; The work is heavily influenced by the sculpture "<a title="Douglas Coupland's SuperNova" href="http://www.coupland.com/2009/04/18/news-don-mills/"></a><a title="Supernova" href="http://www.coupland.com/2009/04/21/art-don-mills/" id="akds">Supernova</a><a title="Supernova" href="http://www.coupland.com/2009/04/21/art-don-mills/" id="akds"></a>" (created by Douglas Coupland) that stands at one end of the Town Square at the Shops. Coupland was exploring the idea that Don Mills, as North America's first planned community, was the epicentre of the explosion of suburban housing that spread across Canada from the early 1950's onwards. My work draws on that history by showcasing the model houses of the period and juxtaposing them with a parade of people who call Don Mills home. I hope to hang the paintings on Saturday, Oct 18th - I'll send out some more information closer to the date. <br /><br />There's another reason to drop by the Shops at Dons Mills (as if my work and the fabulous stores weren't enough...). If you stop by on October 18th, you'll&nbsp; be able to see my paintings in the guest services centre, and join the talented <a title="Patricia Storms" href="http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/event-8960/Kids-Event:-Patricia-Storms-Reading-and-Signing#comments" id="x63n">Patricia Storms</a> (a fellow <a title="Canscaip" href="http://www.canscaip.org/"></a><a title="CANSCAIP" href="http://www.canscaip.org/" id="dd2b">CANSCAIP</a> member) for reading from her book "The Pirate and the Penguin" at the McNally Robinson Bookstore around 3 pm. Rumor is that she'll be joined by one heck of a <a title="Patricia's Pirate" href="http://storms.typepad.com/booklust/2009/08/arrrrrr-the-pirate-jumped-out-of-the-book.html"></a><a title="pirate" href="http://storms.typepad.com/booklust/2009/08/arrrrrr-the-pirate-jumped-out-of-the-book.html" id="kw18">pirate</a>! <br /><br />And speaking of shopping - I'll be offering a number of prints and cards for sale just in time for Christmas! (yes, I can hear you groaning from here. Sorry. I have to think ahead). They'll be available online November 1 - I'm trying to decide whether to offer them though <a href="http://www.etsy.com/category/art/print/giclee"></a><a title="etsy" href="http://www.etsy.com/category/art/print/giclee" id="e3gp">etsy</a>, <a href="http://www.redbubble.com/buy-wall-art"></a><a title="redbubble" href="http://www.redbubble.com/buy-wall-art" id="j4z3">redbubble</a>, <a href="http://www.zazzle.com/art+posters"></a><a title="zazzle" href="http://www.zazzle.com/art+posters" id="lwi6">zazzle</a>, <a href="http://shop.cafepress.ca/sk/buyeverything"></a><a title="cafepress" href="http://shop.cafepress.ca/sk/buyeverything" id="tmim">cafepress</a>, <a href="http://shop.ebay.ca/Direct-from-the-Artist-/60435/i.html?_nkw=art+prints&amp;_catref=1&amp;_dmpt=Art_Prints&amp;_fln=1&amp;_trksid=p3286.c0.m282"></a><a title="ebay" href="http://shop.ebay.ca/Direct-from-the-Artist-/60435/i.html?_nkw=art+prints&amp;_catref=1&amp;_dmpt=Art_Prints&amp;_fln=1&amp;_trksid=p3286.c0.m282" id="w.8e">ebay</a> - or a combination. I have a <a title="cafepress" href="http://shop.cafepress.ca/sk/buyeverything" id="g8:8">cafepress</a> store now, but for prints and cards, one of the other sites may be a better choice. So here's my question for you - have you ever used any of the above sites? If so, as a shopper, do you find any one of them better than the others?
